YIS in the Community
Visitors and newcomers to YIS often remark upon the family atmosphere and strong sense of community at our school. This community-mindedness extends to the broader Yokohama area and, reflecting our multicultural background and commitment to internationalism, global society.
YIS teachers, students and parents are active in a wide range of charitable and community outreach programs, from the building of schools in educationally underserved communities to fundraising for refugees displaced by natural disasters or conflicts to support and interaction with orphanage children and the elderly.

Within the school community as well, our annual Bridging the Gap educational conference brings together parents and teachers each November to listen to and explore some of the
ideas that are influencing the development of international education and also
affecting the traditional links between home and school.
