Information Technology

Computing Resources

Yokohama International School is committed to providing the best IT and technology resources. With well over 300 computers, YIS is able to provide students easy access to computers and software for their assignments and activities. Ranging from educational to basic productivity to high-end production software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Apple Final Cut Pro and Digidesign ProTools, the school can cater to even the most advanced users

Communications

High School and Middle School students are assigned email, server and web portal accounts. Concurrently, ELC and Elementary School students are assigned collaborative class accounts. These resources extend the classroom beyond the campus and allow for education to be a continuous experience.

Infrastructure

YIS connects to the outside world on a 100 MBps fiber optic line that is distributed with a gigabit wired intranet and industrial-strength wireless network. Desktops are connected directly to the gigabit network, while laptops are connected via the 54 Mbit network. These two technologies combined allow for easy and quick access to internal network and external internet resources from anywhere on the school campus.

The internal school network is highlighted by servers for files, media and collaborative work schemes. Server redundancies are particularly built into the email and file servers, allowing for speed and stability.

IT Policy

YIS has an IT Policy governing use of computer and other electronic resources and services by students and others in the school community.

What happens when an IT department realizes it needs is documents presented in a manner that is more collaborative, open and interactive? They move it all onto a wiki. Explore our department wiki and see the inner workings of the policy and strategies that drive IT at YIS

Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing? The IT Department has embraced this concept and is now providing bite-sized updates of the ongoing IT battle. Follow Brian, Genki, Christine or Yokohama International School
