Application Timing
Our school year begins in late August and is divided into two terms, the first of which ends in early January and the second in mid-June. Most students enroll at the beginning of the school year or at the start of the second term in early January. We have two streams in our admissions process: one for families newly arriving in Japan from overseas and the second for those already resident in Japan.
Applicants newly arriving in Japan from overseas1 may apply for enrollment at any time during the school year up until May 1. Such applications are reviewed on an as-received basis, and decisions are usually issued within two weeks of receiving fully completed application forms, school records and recommendations, and payment of the application fee. Although we do not have set application deadlines for applicants coming from overseas, we advise parents interested in enrolling their children at the beginning of the school year in August to submit their applications by mid-March (mid-February for High School applicants). Parents wishing to enroll their children at the beginning of the second term in January are advised to submit their applications by mid-November. Again, notification of admissions decisions will usually be within two weeks of receipt of complete application forms, school records and recommendations, and payment of the application fee.
Applicants already residing in Japan2 are requested to apply for enrollment at the beginning of the school year or at the beginning of the second term. Elementary School and Middle School applicants may also apply for enrollment after the Spring Break in April3. Under special circumstances, and at the discretion of the Director of Admissions, mid-year enrollment may also be allowed. Application deadlines and notification timing for Japan-resident applicants are as follows:

Please note:
- “Applicants newly arriving in Japan” are those who have been living in Japan less than 90 days prior to the date of application.
- “Applicants already residing in Japan” are those who have been living in Japan for 90 days or more prior to the date of application.
- Japan-resident transfer students applying for Elementary School or Middle School enrollment in April must submit applications by December 1; notification will be made by mid-February.
- For High School transfer applicants already residing in Japan, following review of assessment testing we will issue an initial notification by the end of February indicating whether the candidate is considered eligible or ineligible for admission. Depending on availability of places, eligible candidates may be accepted at that time or placed in a wait pool until space availability is confirmed, and final decisions will be issued by the beginning of April. Please note that April notification may include acceptance, continuation of wait pool status or suggested withdrawal from consideration if chances for a place becoming available are considered slim.
